The Red Ox, owned and operated by Jim Gardner since 1978, is known throughout
west central Illinois for its excellent food, its attentive service
and its casual, comfortable surroundings. Originally opened as the Student
Prince West in 1956, what was then a coffee shop atmosphere has evolved
into one of Macomb's premier restaurants for steaks, seafood, pasta
and more. Serving lunch and dinner Tuesdays through Sundays, the Red Ox also is famous for its Friday and Saturday evening Great American Buffet and its sumptuous Sunday Buffet, served 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The After Dark menu features an appealing array of appetizers, specialty cocktails, wines and beers, and the "Red Ox To Go!" menu makes all regular menu items available for take home enjoyment. A banquet room provides a comfortable, full-service facility for 25-75 people. After extensive building renovation several years ago, the Red Ox now offers separate dining rooms for smoking and non-smoking patrons. There is plenty of convenient parking just steps from the door, and all major credit cards are accepted.
